Every year, the MacArthur foundation honors 25 “geniuses” in various fields. Prestige aside, the honor comes with a $500,000 paycheck.
Jeanne Gang, a Chicago architect, founder and principal of Studio Gang Architects, has just become one of them, shining some much needed light on all the women in this often misrepresented profession.
Below is a video of Jeanne talking about Architecture, her practice and what becoming a MacArthur Foundation fellow means to her, followed by a few images of her work.

It’s inspiring to see how such a common sense (dare I say “grounded?”) approach to architecture can lead to such imaginative pieces of work soaring into the sky.
I imagine a large part of the appeal of this profession is precisely what Gang explains, that when the job is well done, it calls for thorough exploration of several other fields including psychology, sociology, history and ecology, to name a few.
